Unify Management and Staff toward Same Goals and Objectives

Organization: Non-Profit Agency

Problem: Unify Management and Staff toward Same Goals and Objectives

The Executive Director (ED) recognized that her team was putting in long hours yet still not performing their jobs to her satisfaction and she was disappointed in the lack of support and respectful interaction among her team members.

Recommended Solution: Path Element Profile assessment and the Five Dysfunctions of a Team workshop.

  1. Create Awareness: Each employee took the Path Element Profile assessment online and received their results at the workshop. All of the employees agreed that the assessment was spot-on in describing their own and their peers’ behavior styles. They really embraced and enjoyed a new way of understanding how to be successful when talking to others; particularly those with an opposite behavior style.
  2. Try on New Behaviors: Throughout the workshop, various team building exercises allowed the team members to work together to find innovative solutions to problems.
  3. Gain Clarity: The next day, we began the real work of uncovering mistrust among the team members using Five Dysfunctions of a Team assessment and workshop materials.
  4. Growth and Change: With the TeamWide Solutions coaches guiding the discussion toward positive outcomes, the team collectively dealt with the five challenges that show up in dysfunctional teams: Lack of Trust, Fear of Conflict, Lack of Commitment, Absence of Accountability, and Failure to Achieve Results.
  5. Signs of Success: Immediately following the 2-day workshop, the ED reported more camaraderie and support for each other and more respectful interactions. An unforeseen benefit occurred when the staff shared their knowledge about the PEP types with the clients served by the non-profit, which was very impactful.
  6. Ongoing Improvement: Follow-up sessions with the team included working together to establish a Thematic Goal for the next 12-18 month period, which is one of the powerful hallmarks of The Five Dysfunctions of a Team program.
