People communicate differently! With that in mind, it's no wonder that when the stakes are high, it is more difficult to have direct and important conversations with others who hear what we are saying but who don't understand what we say. Sometimes, it helps to have another person - such as a coach - participate as a facilitator, objective listener, and accountability partner.
What is Triad Coaching?
With triad coaching, a coach facilitates a discussion between two people who may need an intermediary to help them understand each other's point of view and clarify key points in the dialog. Triad coaching is particularly helpful between a manager and employee or peer-level managers who are not on the same page but need to be.

What are the Benefits of Triad Coaching?
When you offer triad coaching as an option to resolve differences or to have high-stake discussions, some of the key benefits include:
- Allows both participants to be fully expressed and heard
- Provides structure to a conversation that may be unfocused
- Helps to keep emotions in check and neutralize heated discussions
- Moves the participants out of anger or frustration and into action
How does Triad Coaching work?
During a triad coaching session, the coach and the participants define the objectives and goals of the triad coaching session. The coach ensures that each person has the opportunity to be fully expressed (say exactly what they want to say without interruption) and moves the conversation to a productive conclusion. The coach will help to keep emotions in check and keep the dialog aligned with the stated objectives. At the end of the session, the coach will ask the participants to evaluate the value of the conversation and agree on the next steps for moving forward, which may include a follow-up triad coaching session.
